Car mechanics website on P. Ramlee by V.CHANDRASEKARAN

ENTERTAINMENT legend Tan Sri P. Ramlee’s wise words in his Malay films were the driving force that helped “steer” car mechanic and salesman Zainal Abidin through difficult times. In gratitude, Zainal from Sri Manjung in Lu-mut, Perak, has come up with a website www. p-ramlee.com.my on the movie icon.

“I cannot help but come up with the website as it was P. Ramlee’s wise words that guided me through difficult times,'' he said. “My success as a car mechanic and salesman is mainly due to the “never give up” policy ad-vocated by P. Ramlee,” said Zainal, 50.

He said he engaged someone to create the website two weeks ago and it was still being developed. “It is a tribute to P. Ramlee for inspiring me,” he said after attending special prayers for P. Ramlee at Kompleks Pustaka Warisan Seni at Jalan P. Ramlee, Penang, yesterday.

National Archives director-general Moha-med Zawawi Abdullah was among the 50 people present. It was organised by National Archives Pe-nang branch. Also present was branch director Mohd Nasser Malim. Zainal, who was formerly in the police force, said the website would feature information on P. Ramlee and would be interactive. “I have spoken to National Archives director-general Mohamed Zawawi requesting his de-partment’s help to display more information on P. Ramlee on the website,” he said.

He said he went into the car business in 1979 after he leaving the police force. “I observed P. Ramlee projecting himself as master of all trades in his films,’’ he said. He said he felt the need to set up the website after recovering recently from a road accident. “The moment I recovered from a partial lapse of memory which I suffered after the accident three years ago, I had this strong urge to create a website on P. Ramlee,” said the fa-ther of four children.

He said he had seen all the films by P. Ramlee and had kept a collection of most of his movies. “There is much the young can learn from P. Ramlee’s movies.  “And that is why I wanted to come up with the website so that the young can pick up infor-mation on the movie icon,” he said.
